Online Embarkation Form
The Department of Immigration and Emigration has introduced an online embarkation form, replacing the traditional paper embarkation card. Foreign nationals can complete the online form up to three days prior to arrival in Sri Lanka. This service is free of charge.
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
All visitors are advised to apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter Sri Lanka. Information on eligibility and the application process is available on the Department of Immigration and Emigration website. For convenience, visitors can apply for an ETA on the ETA website.
For a small fee, you can also apply through our visa and travel authorisation partner – Sherpa.

Transition from ETA to eVisa
Sri Lanka has transitioned from the ETA system to the new eVisa scheme. All visitors must complete an eVisa application prior to their arrival in the country.
eVisa Fees Waiver Scheme
A fee waiver scheme has been introduced for citizens of the following countries:
- China
- India
- Indonesia
- Russia
- Thailand
- Malaysia
- Japan
This waiver is valid for tourism purposes only and is effective immediately until May 31st, 2024 (last date of arrival). To avail of the scheme, please select the 30-day single entry eVisa option during your application.
